Frequently Asked Questions

What is personalised wellness?

Being ‘well’ is different for everyone. A person’s DNA (genome) is unique to that individual. It acts like a blueprint or recipe, holding all sorts of personal information, like height, eye colour and how much hair one has. It also partly dictates what diseases someone is at risk of, what foods they are intolerant of, what diets suit their metabolism, the type of exercises that benefit them the most and much more. Personalised wellness means taking into account your unique profile and information, which includes a biometric screening in the form of tests like DNA and other biometrics, to create a specific personal wellness program that’s unique to you.

How can you help me achieve my wellness goals?

At Panacea, we consider wellness a proactive journey that allows us to work together on achieving your wellness goals and aspirations. In addition to providing you with your biometric screening results, we also offer you a one to one consultation with an expert who will help you make sense of those results. Together, we will create a customised wellness plan. Depending on what your needs are, this plan may focus on nutrition, exercise, weight gain, weight loss, general wellbeing and more. We start by focusing on your wellness needs and goals, then tailor our approach around that.

What is a biometric screening?

A biometric screening is a combination of measurements and calculations that take into account factors that affect your wellbeing and potential risk factors for certain diseases, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, amongst others. These can be physical characteristics such as height, weight, body mass index, blood pressure, blood cholesterol, blood glucose and aerobic fitness tests. We also encourage you to maintain a lifestyle diary for 7 days so we can best understand your current lifestyle. This includes food, sleep, stress and activity.

Throughout the screening, your aspirations and goals are taken into account as the basis of your wellness journey.

What does Panacea’s biometric screening involve?

Our biometric screening currently includes the DNA test, which is a painless non-invasive saliva test performed in person or via a home kit sent to you in the post, the health questionnaire and certain measurements taken at our clinic should you choose to see us there. We are continuously working on including more parameters to enhance our approach and keep up with the latest scientific updates.

Why is it important to undergo a biometric screening?

Being able to get an accurate medical and personal history from you allows us to identify the areas we need to focus on the most, and work together on the next steps for your wellbeing journey. As medical advances progress, what we are learning is that one size does not fit all. What is ‘correct’ for one person, may not be so for another. Therefore, at the heart of our approach is to keep our work personalised to you.

When and how will I get the results of my tests?

Typically, your test results and analysis are ready within 3 weeks. Once we receive the results of your tests and analyse them, we will arrange a one to one consult with you. This is to go through the results, answer questions that you may have and expand on areas of your choice. This may include specific areas such as nutrition and exercise, goals such as increasing your levels of energy and decreasing stress levels, or simply improving general wellbeing.

Who will my individual results be shared with?

We take your confidentiality and privacy seriously. With your consent, we may share your results amongst the clinicians and wellness practitioners within our team. This is simply so we can get our minds together and come up with a plan that suits you. For example, some people may wish to have a consult with a medical doctor but with a focus on nutrition and diet. In this case, the doctor may choose to consult with one of our dieticians or nutritionists. There are times where we may use your data for scientific improvement and research, however we will make sure that you are not identified.

What happens during my one to one consultation?

Once your results are ready, you will be offered a one-to-one consultation with a practitioner of your choice. This consultation takes the form of a holistic assessment around your well-being needs, taking into account the results of your DNA, biometric testing, and lifestyle diaries. Your consultant will go through the results with you, answer questions you may have and together, come up with a plan to support your wellness.

Will my consultation with you replace going to my doctor for an annual physical, a check up on medical conditions or a general visit to check on medical symptoms?

No. We do not replace your GP, nor do we diagnose or treat medical conditions. We work with you, to help you identify the areas in your life and wellbeing which you would like to improve, from diet to exercise, stress levels to happiness and overall wellbeing. If we identify a medical problem, we will strongly advise you to seek a consult from your GP or medical consultant. Our work together does not replace medical consultations, but aims to support and improve your wellbeing.

What if I am not based at a location where you see people or I can’t get to you for a consultation?

We are able to conduct your health assessment and consultation to review the results by phone or online via skype at a time to suit you. Our DNA test can also be sent out to you, as it is a simple, saliva swab test that is posted straight back to the UK laboratory. Postage for this is included.
